Full Itinerary:
Day 1: Mandalay – Amarapura
Mingalabar! Welcome to Myanmar, the extraordinary land where the magic and cultural alluring come to life.
Today, embark on the RV Pandaw II cruise ship and after lunch on board, we take a city tour to the central Mandalay to discover the golden royal capital. Make your first visit to the Mahamuni Pagoda to admire one of the most highly revered Buddha images in the country. From here proceed to Shwenadaw Monastery where offers you a sense of how Burma was like before the British invasion. Later on, transfer to Amarapura, known as the City of Immortality. Visit U Bein Bridge, far-famed as the longest and oldest teak bridge in the world. Take a local boat trip and slowly sail around the lake to behold the beauty of U Bein Bridge at sunset.
Day 2: Yandabo
The morning of day 2 takes you to Ava, the ancient royal capital of Burma. Get on a horse cart and explore the city’s highlights. First head to Nan Myint Watch Tower, the remains of the palace building name “the leaning tower of Ava”.
After that, move to Maha Aungmye Bonzan Monastery, a fine example of the Burmese architecture in the 19th century built of brick and stucco. Continue to visit Bargayar Monastery to marvel at the impressive ornate woodcarvings and teak posts.
After lunch, when the ship reaches Yandabo, a tranquil riverside village which notes for the pottery making from the river clay. A stroll through the village gives you the perfect way to see the real-life of the people. Fulfill your excursion with a visit to the Pandaw School, if today is not a holiday, you can see the daily activities of students.
Day 3: Bagan
A full day to explore the wonderful archaeological site of Bagan. Unlock the hidden treasure behind 3000 temples dotted on the plain. Your sightseeing might include Shwezion Pagoda, the most popular tourist attraction; Htilominlo Temple, a strong brick construction helping the temple survive after many earthquakes; Ananda Pagoda, the most beautiful monument in Bagan; and Dhammayan Gyi, the largest temple.
In the afternoon, gain more insight into the local life with a visit to the lacquer workshop where the local artisans creating the finest lacquerware items from bamboo and wood.
Day 4: Bagan – Salay
Wake up in the call of nature this morning. After breakfast, this interesting day delivers you a chance to descend Tan-Chi-Taung Mountain by minivan for the spectacular sunrise trip over Bagan. Next up, transfer to Salay where you will visit the Yoke Saung Kyaung with its spectacular wood carvings and we explore an area of splendid colonial-style houses.
Day 5: Magwe
The morning of day 5 takes you to Magwe, a pleasant town on the bank of Irrawaddy River. Her climb the river bank and wend our way through a labyrinth of passages and paths to reach the magnificent Myat Thalon Pagoda. Constructed with solid gold bricks, it is home to many nat shrines and hermitages within the temple precincts.
Day 6: Minhla & Gwechaung
Today, the ship leads us to Thayetmyo, a pleasant colonial town once guarded the border between Royal Myanmar and British Myanmar in the 2nd Anglo Myanmar War of 1855. Many of the buildings including the covered market date from this period still exist until now. Here we visit the local market, see the colonial houses and ride a horsecart to see the countryside and the oldest golf club in the country.
Your guide then will also take you to Minhla, an idyllic village that is home to Minhla fort that once was constructed to keep British at bay from Royal Myanmar.
Day 7: Prome
This early morning, the ship continues to sail downstream to Prome (Paya), a laid-back town that was once a bustling trading town. Here we visit the 5th-8th century archaeological site of Thayekhittaya where you will be able to see some early Buddhist artifacts and sculptures in the museum.
Day 8: A Kauktaung
Stop at the famous A KaukTaung to explore the spectacular Buddhas carvings on the cliff. Take this chance to hike up to marvel at the dramatic view surrounding.
Day 9: Danupyu
Today continue our exploration of Delta creeks and stop at Donabyu, a little known town with a busy port and bustling markets.
Day 10: Twante
This morning, sail through the Yangon River and enter the Twante Canal, which connects the Yangon River with the Irrawaddy Delta. We stop en route for a short excursion to the laid-back town of Twante in the afternoon. Explore the town on a local tuk-tuk to gaze out at the pace of life in the countryside. Your guide will introduce you to the Shwesandaw Pagoda, a famous Buddhist monument in the region before returning to the ship.
Day 11: Yangon – City Tour
After breakfast, say goodbye to the crew and check out at RV Pandaw II. After getting back to land, meet your local guide in Yangon and enjoy a city tour to discover the fascinating Yangon.
Take a scenic drive through the streets where are filled with historical buildings many of which have a faded colonial charm not seen elsewhere in Asia. Passing by Strand Hotel, the Buddhist landmarks of Sule Paya, Mahabandoola Garden and Independence Monument, head to Chauk Htat Gyi Pagoda, home to the huge reclining Buddha image which is highly revered in the country.
In the afternoon, highlight your city tour at Shwedagon Pagoda, one of the greatest Buddhist pagodas in the world. Made from 16 tons of pure gold, the afternoon is the best time to admire its majestic beauty covered by the golden light. Take your time to wander around the pagoda land and observe the local pilgrims paying homage to the Buddha.
Day 12: Yangon – Pathein – Ngwe Saung Beach
Leave Yangon this morning to take a domestic flight to Ngwe Saung Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in Myanmar. Just opening in 2010, the beach is still remaining untouched so it offers a lot of things to do, see and taste.
On arrival, meet your guide and transfer to the hotel to check-in. Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.
Day 13: Ngwe Saung Beach Free Day
Today is free for you to laze on the beach. You can walk around the quiet beach, or visit the town to see the local life.
Day 14: Ngwe Saung Beach Free Day
Today, continue to enjoy your beach holiday at Ngwe Saung.
Day 15: Ngwe Saung – Yangon Departure
