Day 1: Yangon Arrival
Mingalabar! Welcome to Yangon – the city of timeless charm. Today, welcome by Go Myanmar’s local guide and then we transfer to the hotel for check-in. Relax and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.
Day 2: Yangon City Tour (B)
A full day to discover the city of glistening temple. Start the day with a scenic drive from your hotel through charming colonial buildings of Yangon including the City Hall, Post Office, Strand Hotel and many more. Your private car will give you a window to the fascinating as well as the charm of the fabulous architecture dating back to a century ago. You will have a stop at the Mahabandoola Park to take some beautiful photos at the Mahabandoola monument, the City Hall and Sule Pagoda. Then head to Kandawgyi Royal Lake, one of the best photos stops in Yangon offering a breathtaking view to the floating Karaweik Hall.
After that, visit Chauk Htat Gyi Pagoda, home to the massive reclining Buddha image. At 66 meters long and 16 meters high, it is huge and is one of the largest Buddha images in Myanmar.
After lunch, return to your hotel for a break.
In the late afternoon, follow your guide to visit a highlight of the day: Shwedagon Pagoda – one of the grandest Buddhist pagodas in the world. Not just made from 16 tons of pure gold and topped with over 7000 of diamonds, sapphire, and rubies on the crown, it was also believed to be home to the sacred relics of the Buddha. Take your time to behold the glittering hue of the pagoda at sunset and try sitting on the ground and pay homage to the Buddha like a local.
Day 3: Yangon – Prome (Pyay) (B, L)
This morning, your guide will escort you from the hotel to transfer to Prome (Pyay) – the most exciting stop on the cruise from Yangon to Bagan. On arrival, visit Thayekhittaya (Sri Ksetra), well known as the Fabulous City under Pyu kingdom from the 5th to 9th century. Listen to your guide to know more about the history of the site before making your way to Sri Ksetra Museum. Learn about the vivid history of Burma through the maps and artifacts of Hindu deities, Buddha images and silver coins from the 6th century.
Late this afternoon, move to Irrawaddy Explorer for check-in.
Day 4: Thayet Myo (B, L, D)
This morning, enjoy your time at leisure when the ship sailing to the pleasant town of Thayet Myo. Around 10 – 11 am, watch a BBC Documentary “The Life of the Buddha” to learn about Siddhartha Gautama, the founder of Buddhism.
This afternoon, leave the ship for a visit to the idyllic village of Thayet Myo. Explore the laid-back town on a local tuk-tuk. You will visit the Thayet gold course – the oldest golf course in Myanmar. Then passing through antique colonial buildings before making a stop at the local market where you can gaze out at the daily trade of Burmese people.
Day 5: Magwe (B, L, D)
This morning you can rise before dawn to witness the brilliant beams of the sun give a splendid shading to the mists and knolls from your private room. Enjoy your relaxing time while the ship sailing to Magwe. You will have a chance to get more knowledge about Myanmar culture and tradition through the demonstrations on board. Learn about the way to put on Thanaka (Myanmar traditional make-up and suncream from tree bark) and to wear longyi with the instruction of the cabin crew.
On arrival at Magwe, leave the ship to take an excursion to Magwe town. Get on a trishaw to sightseeing in the town. Make your first visit to the local market to get a glimpse at the local trade and see a variety of products. Then visit Mya Tha Lun Pagoda, the chief pagoda in Magwe features a gilded stupa occupying a hilltop site with a dramatic river view. Later on, return to the ship and enjoy your time at leisure.
Day 6: Salay – Bagan (B, L, D)
The morning of day 6 leads you on the way to Bagan via Salay, a colorful old religious center in Central Myanmar. Before leaving the ship for an afternoon excursion, take your time to enjoy the fine services on board such as spa treatments or have some soft drinks on the bar.
Following your afternoon sightseeing with a visit to Salay House, a restored 1906 British-colonial trading company which shows you antiques to recreate the flavor of the historic period. Stroll along the main Strain Street towards the local market then visit Yoke Sone Kyaung Monastery, the beautiful wooden monastery resemble the Golden Palace Monastery in Mandalay. Passing through some Bagan-era monument to Mann Paya, a famous pagoda note for a beautiful lacquerware Buddha.
Enjoy the laid-back pace of life in the town before returning to the ship to continue sailing to Bagan.
Day 7: Bagan Temple Visit (B, L, D)
A full day to explore the magnificent temple town of Bagan. Start the day with a visit to Nyaung U Market, the fresh local market in Bagan where you will gain more local insight into the local life, trading as well as products. Then head to Shwezigon Pagoda, the most popular attraction in Bagan. Here you will have an opportunity to learn more about the Buddhist teaching through the impressive terraces on the main stupas and the origin of Burma Nats (natural spirits). Proceed to Htilominlo Temple, an elegant temple with a brilliant structure that helped it strongly survive after many earthquakes.
In the afternoon, follow your guide to a local lacquerware workshop to get the first-hand experience observing the artisans to create many beautiful and unique items from bamboo, wood with lacquerware.
As the sun slowly immerse everything in golden light, enjoy a scenic drive to the sunset hill where you can sit back and enjoy one of the best sunsets in the world over the fabulous sites of Bagan.
Day 8: Bagan – Mandalay – Amarapura
This morning, say goodbye to Bagan to take a flight to Mandalay, the former royal capital of Myanmar. On arrival, enjoy a cozy lunch at a local restaurant before going to the hotel.
In the afternoon, make your way to Amarapura to visit U Bein Bridge, the world’s longest and oldest teak bridge. Take a walk through the bridge where you will encounter many locals and tourists. To fulfill the experience here, take a boat trip and let the local boatman carry you around the lake to take the best photo to the bridge’s panorama.
Day 9: Mandalay – Mingun – Mandalay Hill (B, L, D)
This morning takes you to an interesting trip to Mingun, a laid-back and charming village on the bank of Irrawaddy River. Take a local tuk-tuk to sight-seeing around the village. You will first stop at Mingun Pahtodawgyi, the ruin of the world’s largest unfinished temple dating back to the 18th century.
Proceed to Hsinbyume Temple, a fantastic white-washed temple built like the shape of Mount Meru with 7 elegant terraces stand for 7 ocean in the world. Later on, stop for a visit at Mingun Bell, the second largest ringing bell.
This afternoon, visit Kuthodaw Pagoda to marvel at the largest Buddhist book in the world carved on 729 marble slabs. Then highlight the trip of the day with a scenic drive to Mandalay Hill to enjoy the peaceful sunset over the city.
Day 10: Mandalay – Fly to Heho – Inle Lake (B, L, D)
Leave Mandalay this morning to take a flight to Inle Lake – the natural paradise of Myanmar. On arrival, visit a local nunnery school and let them bless you for your happy and healthy.
After lunch, we board a long-tail boat trip to visit Nga Phe Chaung Monastery, the largest wooden monastery in Inle Lake built on more than 600 pillars.
Day 11: Inle Lake – Indein – Fly to Yangon (B, L, D)
Wake up in the sound of bird-singing this morning and we get on a boat trip crossing through endless floating gardens and stilt-houses built on the water to reach the charming village of Indein – home to the Pa-oh ethnic group. You will visit Shwe Indein Temple, the ancient complex of golden stupas and ruins scattered on the hill.
After lunch at a local restaurant, returning to the hotel for check out and transfer to the airport to take a flight back to Yangon.
Day 12: Yangon – Departure (B)
