Full Itinerary
Day 1: Yangon Arrival
Mingalabar! Welcome to Myanmar – the extraordinary Golden Land. Today, welcome by Go Myanmar’s local tour guide at the airport and then we transfer to the city center to check-in at your hotel.
Day 2: Yangon City Tour
A full day to discover Yangon – the city of glistening temples. Start the day with a scenic drive to Kandawgyi Lake, the most beautiful photo stop in the city where you can save your stunning photos with the royal Karaweik Palace. Proceed to Chauk Htat Gyi Pagoda, home to one of the most highly revered reclining Buddha images. Before that, passing through the street to have a glimpse of the fascinating colonial buildings. Your private driver will take you through the Post Office, City Hall and Independent Monument, the landmark of Yangon.
This afternoon, highlight your city tour with a visit to Shwedagon Pagoda, one of the greatest Buddhist pagodas in the world which is the pride of Myanmar in general and Yangon in particular. Take your time to wander around the pagoda, marvel at the glistening pagoda at sunset and observe the local pilgrims paying homage to the Buddha.
Day 3: Yangon – Prome
Leave Yangon this morning and drive to Prome where we embark on the RV Kanee Pandaw cruise ship and start your 10-night Irrawaddy cruise. We reach Prome by the afternoon, before getting on the board, visit the 5th-8th century archaeological site of Thiri-ya-kittiya, the former center of the Pyu civilization with a fascinating museum of early Buddhist artifacts and sculptures.
Day 4: Thayet Myo
Wake up in the sound of bird-singing this morning and enjoy the cool fresh air on the river. We enjoy the breakfast while the ship sailing to the pleasant colonial town of Thayet Myo. This period marks the opening of many of the buildings including the covered market. Additionally, Thayet also boasts the oldest golf course in Myanmar dating back to 1885. Get off the board to visit the market, see the colonial houses and ride out by horse cart to the golf course, passing through the former British botanical garden.
Day 5: Magwe
The morning of day 5 takes you to Magwe – a tranquil destination where we ride trishaws to reach the magnificent Magwe Myat-Thalon Pagoda, constructed with solid gold bricks. The temple includes many interesting shrines within its precincts and overlooks the river, offering spectacular views of the Irrawaddy. Take your time to absorb in a peaceful atmosphere.
Day 6: Sale (Salay)
Today, enjoy the view while the ship sailing to Sale (Salay) – the peaceful Bagan era village. Visit Yoke Saung Kaung Monastery, an intricate wooden monastery noted for its spectacular wood carvings. After that, we also explore the area of splendid colonial-style houses in the village.
Day 7: Tan-Chi-Taung – Bagan
In the morning, moor at Tan-Chi-Taung Mountain and enjoy the view. Then spend the day enjoying your time on board when the ship sails to Bagan, the town of over 3000 magnificent temples and pagodas.
Day 8: Bagan
A full day to explore Bagan, one of the greatest archaeological sites in the world. Power up your morning with a visit to Nyaung U Market, the authentic market in Bagan to gaze out at the trade and life of the people. Then you might visit Shwezigon Pagoda – the most popular attractions in Bagan; Andana Pagoda – the most beautiful one enshrining 4 sacred Buddha images. Next, gain more insight into the most famous item in Bagan – Lacquerware with a visit to the lacquerware workshop. Spend your time to chat with the local artisan to know more about the process of creating exotic items from wood, bamboo, and lacquerware. This evening, take a leisure walk at Oh Ne Kyaung village to see the local life in this typical riverside community.
Day 9: Yandabo
Today we will take a short excursion to the small rural village of Yandaboo where is specialized in pot making. Take this chance to see the real-life of the people in the rural countryside of Myanmar. Then your guide also leads you to visit Pandaw sponsored School.
Day 10: Mandalay, Sagaing & Amarapura
After breakfast, take a city tour to discover the cultural Mandalay. Make your first visit to Mahamuni Pagoda and Shwe Nan Daw Kyaung teak carved monastery.
In the afternoon we transfer to Sagaing – an important religious site in Myanmar. Be amazed by the green hill studded with 1000 hermitages and sanctuaries, rich in woodcarving and religious art. Highlight your trip with a visit to the ancient capital of Amarapura, take a boat ride along Taungthaman Lake and watch the tranquillity and serenity of this beautiful lake and its famous U Bein Bridge – the longest teak bridge in the world at sunset.
Day 11: Mandalay – Mingun
In the morning, head to Mingun to see the second-largest working bell in the world and the foundation of what would be have become the largest Buddhist pagoda in the world – Mingun pagoda. Here we also visit the Mingun Old Peoples Home originally established with the assistance of the Irrawaddy Flotilla Company in the 1930s.
Day 12: Kyauk-Myoung
As the ship sailing to Kyauk-Myoung, we visit the spectacular potteries near Kyauk-Myoung where the famous 50-gallon water pots are handmade. Take this chance to see all stages of manufacture from the throwing of the pots to the week-long firing in huge kilns.
In the afternoon we cruise back to Mandalay.
Day 13: Mandalay – Disembarkation – Departure
